EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League - Update
November 23 – Vancouver, BC
(from BC Soccer)
BC Soccer wishes to provide clarification and an update to the soccer community which relates to the High Performance pathway and playing opportunities for boys and girls in the Fraser Valley.
The BC Soccer High Performance League Advisory Committee – an advisory Committee to the BC Soccer Development Committee and with oversight responsibilities for the EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League – were recently made aware of challenges faced by Magnuson Ford Mariners FC (MFMFC), the current franchise providing the High Performance pathway and playing opportunities for boys and girls in the Fraser Valley.
The Committee is very mindful of the time sensitive nature of this matter particularly with the league season having concluded and players, parents and clubs wishing to solidify post season commitments and plan confidently for the new season in 2013.
Therefore, BC Soccer and the Committee will ensure that there is a sustainable franchise club in place that will provide a High Performance pathway and playing opportunities for boys and girls in the Fraser Valley. A decision on and details of that franchise will be made public by Friday 14th December 2012.
At the direction of the advisory committee, MFMFC have been pursuing a number of avenues that would allow the franchise to overcome its current challenges. However at this time, and following review of the proposals the Committee has decided to defer a decision on the proposed partnership with CCB.
In the meantime, representatives of MFMFC will be invited to a meeting along with districts that cover the Fraser Valley region and their clubs with a view to openly discussing a collaborative franchise model that will achieve BC Soccer’s goal of providing a sustainable High Performance pathway and playing opportunities for boys and girls in that region. The Committee is hoping to convene such a meeting next week.
